Capital Chapter Team, Shea Megale and her Skilled Companion Mercer, are celebrities yet again. Shea has authored a book titled Marvelous Mercer and the two of them were featured at FAO Schwarz for a book signing in the Manhattan store on Saturday, September 29th. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to CCI and Spinal Muscular Atrophy research. For those of you who weren't able to make it to NYC, the book may be ordered from the website www.marvelousmercer.com. Shea has a second book due to be published in January and will have
a Valentine's Day theme!
The week prior to the book signing for Marvelous Mercer, Shea and Mercer appeared on both Good Morning America and the Today Show. They were also featured in USA Today in mid-September. This book is great publicity for CCI as well as a demonstration of the wonderful bond Shea and Mercer share. We are very proud of both of them.
Shea has also been very active in getting CCI's Veterans Program underway. She is scheduled to appear at Walter Reed Hospital in December to do a book event for 100 children with a parent hospitalized there. A sponsor will pay for each child to get a copy of the book and a 16 inch plush dog. Additionally, Shea has met with the head of the Veterans' Association Chief of Medicine for the Army, Navy and Air Force to promote the CCI program.
Shea and Mercer have previously been featured in USA Today (August 2005) and the American Girl (February 2007) magazine. Both articles can be found as links from the website www.walkforshea.com.
Because of his great work for Shea the past few years, Mercer was recognized as "Dog of the Day" yesterday on dogster.com. It was quite an honor for him. He got lots of compliments from his doggie friends.

Shea and friends at the April 29, 2007 at the annual Walk for Shea in Centreville ( www.walkforshea.com ). Pictured are Shea with her CCI pals, left to right, ADIT Garth, CoC Anker (laying down), ADIT Orson (yellow pup), CoC Carl, ADIT Burney, Shea, SC Mercer & Toby, the beagle/terrier mix who helped raise Mercer.
A great crowd was on hand for the walk on an absolutely gorgeous Sunday morning. The sun was shining & there was a gentle breeze to cool the walkers, who came to support research to cure Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The dogs had a tail waggin' good time! |

Shaking paws and "speaking" to celebrities like Jack Hanna are all in a days work for young CCI pup Farina.
Farina and puppy raiser Cyndi met Jack at a Capitol Hill Reception for the AQquarium & Zoolocical Association in April 2007. Cyndi reports that Jack and Farina were new best buddies. What animal lover wouldn't find a new best friend in Farina's beautiful golden grin?
